Thrift Store 101
What is a Thrift Store?
Many people do not know much about Thrift Stores. To some it is just left-overs for the poor. To others it is a
place to get a good deal. To antique and e-bay dealers it could be a gold mine. But in all actuality, it is a
powerful tool for outreach.
All of us in ministry or service to people in our communities and other parts of the world have dreams much too
large for us to accomplish in our own strength. We need help. We need people with knowledge, people with
resources, people with willing hearts and hands. And, of course, we need revenue.
We have learned and know that what we cannot do, God can do. It is the exceedingly, abundantly thing. God
uses people -- ourselves and others -- to accomplish His will.
We also know that nothing magically appears without our involvement and hard work.
As you are considering what a thrift store could do for your ministry, ask yourselves these three questions first.
What do we want our ministry to do?
Do we have enough funds to do that?
Are we satisfied with our financial base?
Then ask the next three questions. These are also important.
Do people already bring us stuff?
Who gives us stuff?
What kinds of stuff?
And finally, find out the answers to these questions.
What kind of accounting do you do?
Do you already have payroll and pay workman’s comp?
How many on your mailing list?
With the answers to these simple questions, you can determine what will be involved (required) in setting up
a thrift store to fund your ministry.
Now, I would ask you one question:
If you could take $75,000 and turn it into steady income, would that be a good deal for your ministry?
